The short version

Keep Closed stores photos, videos and files in an encrypted vault on your device. It was built so that there is nothing to collect, and nothing is collected. The app has no account system, no server of its own, no analytics, no advertising and no crash-reporting service. It does not transmit your content, your usage, your device identifiers or anything else to us or to anyone. The App Store privacy label for the app is Data Not Collected.

What stays on your device

• Everything you add to a vault, encrypted with a key that is derived from your PIN and bound to the device's Secure Enclave. It lives in the app's private container, excluded from iCloud Backup and from computer backups.
• The security log: failed unlock attempts, screenshots and screen recordings while the vault is open, exports and shares. It is encrypted with the rest of the vault and is yours to read or clear.
• Your settings, and the small counters that implement the free tier's limits.
• Diagnostics: iOS delivers the app's own crash and hang reports to the app (MetricKit). They are stored in the protected tree, and they leave the phone only if you share them yourself from About.

We cannot see any of it, reset your PIN, or recover a vault. If you turn off your device passcode, iOS deletes the keys and the vault can no longer be opened.

Network activity

The app makes no network requests of its own. Two system services do:

• Purchases. Pro subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are processed by Apple through the App Store. The app reads Apple's signed receipt on the device to know whether Pro is active. We do not receive your name, payment details or Apple Account.
• Links. Links to this website and to Apple's terms open in your browser, outside the app.

Permissions

• Photos: to import the items you choose and, only when you ask, to delete the originals from Photos or to save items back.
• Camera: to take a photo straight into the vault, and, if you turn on break-in alerts, to take one front-camera photo after repeated wrong PINs. Those photos are stored in your vault and never leave the device.
• Face ID: optional, off by default, evaluated by iOS on the device. The app never sees your face data.

Backups you create

The app can write a single encrypted backup file that you store wherever you choose. It is protected by a passphrase you set; we never see the file or the passphrase, and we cannot recover a lost one.

This website

This website (keep.chineseman.net) shows ads through Google AdSense. This applies to the website only; the app shows no ads and contains no advertising code. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this and other sites.

Children

Keep Closed is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone.
